Dear friends,
Tomorrow will be remembrance day in the Netherlands. Public buildings will display the national flag half mast in the evening from 6 to 8. After two minutes silence the flag is then hoisted to the singing of the national anthem and stays there until sunset. Initially it was a day to remember Dutch victims of the second world ward but now it is a ceremony to include the memory of the fallen in wars of all times and places. Sadly we have had to add many more war victims to our remembrance in recent years. Let us remember them, not just at these ceremonies but always, and let their sacrifice guide our decisions.
The photo is just a glass of Kir royale, which I have once a year ever since I first tasted it exactly a year after we got married.
God bless,
Dineke van den Bogerd
